From the Authority website... Broads Authority Chief Executive Dr John Packman will be sampling the thrills of racing the big boats of The Broads when he crews Raisena no 3 owned and helmed by Martin Broom, Chairman of the Broads Authority's Navigation Committee, in the lunchtime river cruiser race at Oulton Broad Regatta on Friday 22 August.

Haven't heard how this went... I kinda hoped he'd get stuck... Forgive me if I missed this somewhere...

Although I wouldn't wish a putty-ploughing exercise on Mr Broom, I know exactly where you're coming from Danny.

I too had visions of just deserts, even to the point of a newsworthy RNLI helicopter to lift the black-bearded ballast from Raisena.

Hey-ho, perhaps another time.

If you want the results which did come about, so to speak, they are here:-

Indeed, no offence intended to Mr Broom, but you can see where I am coming from! Thanks for the link...

If he'd sailed on Oulton Broad yesterday evening then he probably would have run aground. We ran aground twice, drawing 3'4". Both times near the number three buoy, and that is the river end, well out from the bank and near where the BA dredged last winter.

Well, I hate to argue with those possessing deep local knowledge Peter.
But were you sure that you were aground?

Sometimes the differences between dead-slow and stationary can be virtually commensurate, even amongst those of us who have turned slow-motion yachting into an art form.
