Does The UK Need A Leader Like This?

Prime Minister John Howard - Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage y ou take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,
'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Closer to home and might not the same, or at least very similar, be said of outsiders who have elected themselves to manage the Broads on our behalf?

With Britain suffering from poor leadership, and with the potential for worse, I see great merit in Australia's leadership, and comments.

Wake up.
He's gone.
They voted him off.

It was not a case of whether he is still in power, it was more of a case of what he was saying!, whether the aussies liked him or not is also completely irrelevant to his statment.

This post was about freedom of speech that our so called countries are supposed to have, which in fact we do not.

Pardon?

If an electoral verdict on a politician is not significant, then I can't imagine what is?

The trouble with people like Howard is that they're not to be cherry-picked. You may try, if you like, to select isolated statements, which (depending on your readership status with the Daily Mail), you either admire or do not, but it's naive to to attempt.

Like voters, you have to buy into the whole package, which in the case of Howard is a rather nasty piece of work with a poor record on ethnic minorities and aboriginals.

I've lived in Australia under both Labour and the Country Liberals (not to be confused with the Lib Dems). Think two thousand miles to the right of Richard Littlejohn and keep going.

Hummpff.

This informative little discussion has been silent for some weeks now.

Perhaps we should ask Speakers Corner to shorten the title to "Does the UK need a leader?"

Light the blue touch paper and retire......

I think Sunny underscore Norfolk has just gone to play elsewhere Grunts.

Probably on www.madbadandbald.org ?

Don't get me wrong. I have a number of good friends and acquaintances who play for the red, white and predominantly blue team.
JC for example is well to the right of Kitchener, and has a similar beard.

It's just when it's done so badly that it gets my goat(bear).
Also a land where culture is is produced by leaving milk out of the fridge at night, can teach us very little, and absolutely nothing about political integrity.
