South Norfolk proposals for unitary reorganisation. Page 6:

" ... we propose that the functions of the Broads Authority revert to Harbour and River Conservation Board and that executive functions like planning are returned to the successor unitary authorities."

The page also includes a nice photograph of 222 Swallowtail.

The Broads Authority has failed to deliver anything beyond a burgeoning establishment and this would be the best solution and deserves your support.

Page 6 might also have added that all these academics with vested interests in climate change cannot be trusted to safeguard your house and livelihood.

Lets hope the other councils all follow this lead.

Yippee! Sense at last.

OF, how may this be passed on to other relevant councils?

Don't know whether you've waded through the entire document, but if you do you'll find so much grass-roots logic that it seems a crime it isn't already in place.

North Norfolk and Norwich, you need to play catch-up and quick. Broads Authority, you need to play.... somewhere else.

The Swallowtail may be a rare species, but most people in Norfolk and Suffolk are delighted by the occasional sight of it. I'm hoping for its rapid and healthy proliferation to a Fuller population.

I feel a new corporate logo coming on.

Futty.

I feel greatly heartened by this document. Lets hope something constructive comes from it, that other bodies take a serious look.

It looks as though the stock Broads Authority answer to anyone who does not agree with their executive is that they are ill informed. If they keep this up the ill-informed minority will soon become the majority.

SNDC actually said in their proposal that

Broads Authority
The position of the Broads Authority will need to be clarified. As DEFRA recently confirmed that the Broads Authority cannot lawfully become a National Park under the 1952 (?) Act, we propose
that the functions of the Authority revert to harbour and river conservancy board, and that the executive functions like planning are returned to the successor unitary authorities.

"Abolished" doesn't seem to appear here - only in the wild rhetoric of the Chairman of the Authority, as reported in the EDP today. He seems not to see the irony in his implied criticism of democracy in the District Council.

Richard,
It's my impression that they have been the majority for a considerable time - It's the PTO that lead the minority! Hence the need for a quango - they'd never survive a vote!
