I thought they were conservation, recreation and navigation but take a look at their website homepage, in the dark blue bit at the foot and you will find:-

"conservation, planning, recreation and waterways."

Waterways?! Those bits of water JP spends grant on that is meant for NAVIGABLE water courses?

In normal circumstances, Mardler, I would say that you are being pedantic. In my dictionary, but presumably not in JP's, 'waterway' refers to 'a navigable channel, a route for travel by water'. Its as clear as day in my Oxford dictionary, but that hasn't stopped him using the DEFRA grant, the one intended for the maintenance of waterways, on alternative projects, such as this accursed Bill.

So, because of the Authority's constant attempts to further devalue navigation, I have no alternative but to agree with you.

I heard this week end, from a disgruntled B.A. employee, that during recent tree clearance works at Ranworth Dam, an Inspector's launch, complete with Inspector, was stationed " to look for bats" which may have been disturbed by the aforesaid works, at which point, felling would have ceased.
Since the Rangers and their launches are funded from the Navigation Account, is this another possible misuse of funds?
Perhaps someone might like to ask at the Nav. Committee meeting on Thursday next?

I've received a PM from a regular on the "light side" disputing the facts above.
Shame they couldn't be bothered to post here.

In a brief attempt to be fair, were the trees being cleared in order to enhance the quality of sailing in the area? If so then I suspect the use of the launch was not unreasonable.
