Feast your eyes on the letter written to Norfolk County Council by the Bishop of Norwich. Here is an extract:

"The Broads Authority has achieved a great deal in the last seventeen years championing improvements in water quality, pioneering environmentally sensitive farming and taking the lead in sustainable tourism. But although a member of the National Park family, the absence of the words National Park in the title of the area and the name of the Authority are a barrier to both public and professional understanding the importance of this internationally important landscape. [sic]

I am therefore pleased to support the proposals of this draft Bill to to amend the name of the area and the Authority to include the words National Park ....."

Are these the words of a naive, ill informed priest or has he been conned? Answers on a postcard to the Bishop of Norwich, The Bishop's House, Norwich NR3 1SB.

It must be remembered that the Bishop is a representaive of Jesus, and that Jesus was a fisherman and that he went out in boats to fish. That is a historical fact, although it is not known whether he used a long pole or not.

Now now Matthew,

you should know better - especially with me around! Quite right, Jesus did walk on water, and for a few short steps so did a guy called Peter - but I don't believe his surname was Waller! It is also a well known fact that Jesus was a pretty fine fisherman too... on more than one occasion his timely advice resulted in a match record catch, which nearly sank the boats!

I wonder if they had a boat saftey scheme on Galilee...?

I don't mind Bishops responding to the Bill. But for the life of me I can't see how or why the Very Rev should use his office to endorse the blessed Bill. Unless being 'blessed' warrants official sanctioning.

Bishops, unlike many run of the mill clergy, always give me the impression of being pretty valueless members of society. However, I have always admired a past Bishop of Birmingham's aledged ability to have his way with three maids at one kneeling so to speak! Perk of the job I suppose .

More to the point, why did JP deem it necessary to invoke the hand of a god?

The EDP today (4.6.09) reports a debate in the House of Lords where the Bishop of Norwich attacks the "Juggernaut" of Home Office legislation which has created draconian new laws..... it is not known if that criticism extends to other departments of government, like DEFRA.

He is quoted as saying that "We seem to imagine that every problem, every irritation, every fault in our society can be solved soothed or improved by legislation."

This is the man who promoted the Broads Authority Bill.
